Lessons & Coaching

Harper Arts is pleased to offer a variety of coaching options throughout the performing arts:

Voice Lessons and Vocal Coaching – All ages and levels welcome. We work with students from beginners to professionals looking to improve their instrument and technique.

  • Ages 4-6 – Young voices love to sing! Voice lessons for younger voices look a little different than a traditional “voice lesson”. During a typical session, young singers explore the different parts of their voice (high, low, chest and head) and learn songs that they are interested in and some new songs of the teacher’s choosing. It is our goal to foster a love of singing while gently training for healthy singing and understanding one’s own voice.
  • Ages 7-12 – We being to gently explore vocal technique including healthy belting for kids. We utilize vocalizations that explore the bridge between the speaking and singing voice to introduce the sensation of singing in the “belt” while continuing to foster healthy singing and a love of music. We begin to follow sight singing and ear training lessons from various texts and choose a variety of songs from contrasting genres (music theatre, pop, jazz and classical).
  • Ages 13 and up – Voice students begin to pursue their personal goals for singing whether it is auditioning for musicals, just for fun and beyond. Lessons are tailored to students’ goals and needs.

Acting Coaching – Learn to create a character, create a scene and find your confidence on stage or in an audition.

Audition Coaching – One on one coaching to be at your best on the day of your audition.

Piano Lesson – Beginning and Intermediate in all styles and pedagogies.

  • We utilize Faber and Faber piano curriculum for the majority of our piano students. Beginning students start with a “primer” level and advance through music theory, technique and repertoire to build a foundation. Different pieces and styles are supplemented within the current level of the student as they become available according to student interest and need.

Guitar and Ukulele Lessons – Beginning and intermediate lessons available.

  • Ages 4-8 – We recommend beginning with the ukulele if the interest for guitar is present in this age group. Muscle development and dexterity are important when learning the guitar and learning to press the strings on a guitar can be painful. Ukuleles have softer strings that are easier to push down and with only 4 strings, students can learn chords and notes quickly and experience instant success. While the ukulele is strung slightly different from a guitar, the transition to the guitar from ukulele is generally quite seamless and builds upon the foundation.
  • Guitar lessons are structured with a mix of music theory, note reading and fingering technique as well as chords and strumming to songs of the student’s choosing. We utilize the Alfred’s Kids Guitar Course, Alfred’s Kids Ukulele Course and the Hal Leonard Guitar and Ukulele books.
